Hyderabad, July 15 -- The Telangana government has sent an ordinance to Governor Jishnu Dev Varma seeking approval for providing 42 per cent reservations to Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections.



The Panchayat Raj Department revised Section 285(A) of the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018, and drafted the ordinance accordingly. Following the Governor's assent, the state government will issue an official notification to implement the reservations.



Earlier, the Telangana Assembly and Legislative Council passed a bill approving 42 per cent BC reservations based on data from a caste-based survey. A special Government Order (GO) is also expected to be released in line with the bill and the survey findings.
