Hyderabad, Feb. 19 -- Telangana is witnessing an unexpected surge in power demand even before the peak summer season. On Wednesday, the state's electricity demand hit a record 16,058 MW at 7:55 AM, surpassing last year's peak of 15,998 MW recorded on 10th February.



According to the electricity department, the highest demand recorded in 2023 was 15,623 MW on 8th March. However, this year's demand reached that level as early as 5th February.



Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Energy Bhatti Vikramarka held a review meeting with top officials from power distribution companies to assess the rising demand. He congratulated officials for ensuring uninterrupted power supply despite the surge.
