Hyderabad, April 25 -- The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) retained its hold over the Hyderabad Local Body MLC seat with a resounding victory, as its candidate Mirza Riyaz Ul Haq Hassan defeated the BJP nominee Gautam Rao. The BJP, which had hoped for cross-voting, faced disappointment. Out of the 88 votes cast, Mirza Riyaz Ul Haq Hassan secured 63 votes, while Gautam Rao managed only 25. The Hyderabad Local Body MLC elections were held on 23 April after a gap of 22 years, with only AIMIM and BJP contesting. Major parties like BRS and Congress stayed away from the fray.
