India, April 8 -- BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha staged a one-day hunger strike at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad on Tuesday, demanding the installation of a statue of social reformer Jyotirao Phule in the Telangana Legislative Assembly premises.
Speaking at the protest, Kavitha said Jyotirao Phule was a pioneering reformer who fought for the rights of backward classes, women, and the marginalised. She noted that Dr B.R. Ambedkar considered Phule his guru and said that honouring such a figure by installing his statue in the Assembly is the need of the hour.
