India, June 23 -- The Telangana High Court on Monday questioned the state government on how many days it would take to conduct gram panchayat elections, expressing concern over the delay despite a prior commitment to hold them in February last year.
The court was hearing six petitions, including one filed by a former sarpanch from Nalgonda district, seeking the conduct of elections to local bodies, particularly gram panchayats. The petitioners' counsels informed the court that the term of sarpanches across Telangana ended on 1 February 2024, while the term of MPTC members will expire on 5 July 2024.
