Hyderabad, Feb. 20 -- Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has stressed that education is a shared responsibility between the Centre and states, as it falls under the concurrent list of the Indian Constitution.

Speaking at the National Higher Education Forum in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, he highlighted concerns over the University Grants Commission's (UGC) draft regulations and their impact on state autonomy.

He argued that states are best positioned to develop education systems suited to their demographics and challenges, criticising the Centre's "one-size-fits-all" approach. He also warned against diminishing the role of states in key decisions like university admissions and vice-chancellor appointments.
