Tagore's Dream of India
NEW DELHI, Jan. 22 -- Rabindranath Tagore was born in 1861 and died in 1941. He experienced slavery in his motherland, India. For Tagore, the first Asian to win the Nobel prize in literature, freedom was one of the most lovely experiences and achievements. He had undergone suffering during the pre-independence days.
The collected poems and plays of Rabindranath Tagore show us a dream, so to say, of the Great Poet of our nation:
"Where the mind is without fear, and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depths of truth;
