India, Aug. 14 -- The Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University, organised a lecture and cultural programme on the theme 'The Role of Urdu Language in the Freedom Struggle'.

Presiding over the programme, Prof. Quamrul Hooda Faridi, Chairman of the Department, spoke on the significant contributions of Urdu to India's independence movement.

Prof. Mohd Ali Jauhar discussed the role of freedom fighters who used Urdu journalism to further the cause of national liberation, while Prof. Syed Sirajuddin Ajmali highlighted the influence of Urdu poetry in inspiring patriotic sentiment against colonial rule.
