ALIGARH, Oct. 7 -- year-old boy from Bulandshahar, critically injured in a road traffic accident, was given a new lease of life after an exceptionally complex emergency surgery performed by the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University.

The patient, referred from a private hospital in Aligarh, arrived at JNMC in acute respiratory distress and required immediate ventilator support. Diagnostic evaluation revealed a displaced fracture of the breastbone and ribs compressing the heart and major blood vessels-an extremely rare and potentially fatal injury.
