India, Jan. 6 -- Kolkata shivered as mercury dipped to 10.2degC on Tuesday, marking one of the coldest January days recorded in the past several years.

People scrambled to pull out their sweaters, jackets and other winterwears to deal with the unusual winter chill.

The maximum temperature of the city touched 18.4 degrees, 6.7 degrees below the normal.

According to reports, Kolkata's neighbouring Howrah and Dum Dum were colder at 9 degrees and 9.5 degrees respectively.
