India, Aug. 19 -- Mayapur Aug 19 (UNI) Preparations are in full swing at the global headquarter of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) here to celebrate Janmashtami.

More than 50,000 devotees and tourists from all over the world are expected to participate in the 3 day celebrations beginning August 23, informed Subroto Das, media spokesperson of ISKCON Mayapur.

As per established Vedic scriptures, Lord Sri Krishna appeared from the womb of Devaki 5000 years ago in the Dwapara Yuga in Mathura. Janmashtami is celebrated in Krishna Paksha on the 8th day of month of Bhadra as per Vedic calendar.
