India, Nov. 1 -- The US Department of Homeland Security recently announced an interim final rule ending the practice of automatically extending employment authorisation documents for foreign nationals filing renewal applications in certain employment categories, a step that may hit Indian workers.

"With this rule, DHS prioritizes the proper screening and vetting of aliens before extending the validity of their employment authorizations," the DHS said in a statement.

The new rule came to effect from October 30.
