India, Sept. 29 -- At least four people died and eight others were injured after a man drove his vehicle into a church in the US state of Michigan, opened fire, and set the building on fire during the Sunday service, media reports said.

According to reports, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, a town 60 miles (100km) northwest of Detroit, saw a large number of people attending the Sunday event when the attack occurred.

The suspect behind the attack was identified as 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford.

He was reportedly shot dead by the police.

"We are still actively investigating multiple leads and could not have done this alone," Grand Blanc Township Police Department wrote on Facebook.
