India, Sept. 13 -- An Indian-origin man, who killed his mother at her home in the British city of Birmingham, has been given a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years.

According to reports, Surjit Singh reportedly killed his mother over a fight over a television remote control.

Sharing details about the crime, West Midlands Police said in a statement that Surjit Singh, aged 39, told a relative that he'd attacked Mohinder Kaur, aged 76, at the family home on Clarence Road, Soho.

She phoned 999 after speaking to Singh, at around 1pm on September 29, 2024.

"Minutes later, we forced our way into her property and found her lying on the living room floor," police said.
