Mumbai, April 13 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said he will request the Centre to aid the supply of oxygen through Indian Air Force for the state grappling with a huge surge in coronavirus cases.

"I will speak to the Prime Minister to request him to provide us IAF assistance in the supply of oxygen for medical use from nearby states," Thackeray was quoted as saying by Mint.

Thackeray said this during a televised address to the people of the state about the coronavirus situation and measures to break the chain of infection.

The chief minister admitted that the coronavirus situation in the state is "scary"and the medical infrastructure is overburdened.
