India, Sept. 19 -- Two jawans of the Assam Rifles were killed in action after their truck was ambushed by a group of unidentified gunmen on the outskirts of Manipur's Imphal on Thursday evening, media reports said.
The attackers opened fire on the paramilitary forces' 407 Tata vehicle, which was travelling from Imphal to Bishnupur, in the Nambol Sabal Leikai area, around 8 km from the Imphal airport.
The ambush site lies between Imphal and Churachandpur.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla strongly condemned the attack, expressing profound grief and extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
