India, Dec. 30 -- Turkish security forces detained 189 suspected members of the Islamic State in an operation codenamed "Heroes-38" across 37 provinces in the country, a cabinet minister said on Saturday.

The operation was carried out "simultaneously" in all the provinces, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Thanks to the prayers of our nation and the superior efforts of our security forces, we will continue our struggle without interruption," Yerlikaya said.

The Turkish government designated the Islamic State a terrorist organisation in 2013, blaming it for a spate of deadly attacks in the country since 2015.
