India, Dec. 21 -- US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has issued a strong statement on Islamist ideology, describing it as a potential threat to American values and democratic freedoms.

Referring to developments in certain US cities, Gabbard was quoted by India Today as saying, "Patterson, New Jersey is proud to call themselves the first Muslim city."

Gabbard further claimed that such developments were not hypothetical. "This is already underway in places like Houston. This is not something that may possibly happen. It is already happening here, within our borders," she added.

According to Gabbard, the ideology she was referring to is "fundamentally incompatible with our American foundation of freedom."
