Washington DC, Feb. 6 -- US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday aimed at prohibiting transgender athletes from competing in women's sports, media reports said.

This marks another step in his continued focus on transgender issues since returning to office.

Trump made the announcement surrounded by children and female athletes.

The signing ceremony was attended by several top Republican figures, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Congresswoman Marjorie Greene.

"We will defend the proud tradition of female athletes, and we will not allow men to beat up, injure and cheat our women and our girls. From now on, women sports will be only for women," Trump said, receiving applause from the audience.
