India, Oct. 31 -- Amid reports of suicides allegedly linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress workers have begun distributing copies of the 2002 electoral roll, the base year for the revision, in North 24 Parganas district.
The move, seen as an attempt to reassure anxious residents, comes as opposition parties accuse the Election Commission of working "in collusion" with the BJP to delete large numbers of names, particularly those belonging to communities that migrated from Bangladesh after Partition.
Local Trinamool leader and civic chairman Prabir Saha joined workers in handing out copies of the 2002 list.
