India, Nov. 21 -- A Tejas fighter jet crashed during a flying demonstration at the ongoing Dubai Air Show on Friday, sending a thick plume of black smoke into the sky as shocked spectators looked on at Al Maktoum International Airport.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed that the pilot of the aircraft died in the crash.

In a statement posted on X, IAF said: "An IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident during an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show today. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief."

The force said a Court of Inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the accident.
