India, June 25 -- Tata Group's chairman N Chandrasekaran has taken direct control of the day-to-day operations of Air India amid the crisis that emerged after the deadly Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12, media reports said.

This is not the first time the conglomerate's chairman has taken the reins of a company in his hands.

Tata chairmen have historically taken direct charge during times of crisis.

For instance, J.R.D. Tata personally led the response to the 1989 Tata Steel fire.

N Chandrasekaran's earlier tenure at TCS has also showcased his ability to navigate complex crises.
