India, March 5 -- Australian batting icon Steve Smith, who was part of two World Cup winning squad, announced his retirement from ODIs on Wednesday, a day after India defeated his side to reach the final of the Champions Trophy.
Smith captained Australia in the absence of injured Pat Cummins.
Smith topscored for Australia in the semi-final match by scoring 73 on the spinning wicket in Dubai, where India is playing all their Champions Trophy clashes after refusing to travel to host nation Pakistan amid deteriorating bilateral ties with the neighbouring country.
Crikcet Australia said Smith will be available for T20 and Test selection.
It is the first time T20 Cricket will be introduced in the Olympics as a major event.
