New Delhi, June 12 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to consider a petition filed by sacked Indian Police Service officer, Sanjiv Bhatt, seeking a direction to issue summons to witnesses in connection with a 30-year-old custodial death case against him.

The custodial death case was being heard by a trial court in Gujarat in which the former IPS officer is an accused.

A vacation bench, headed by Justice Indira Banerjee and also comprising Justice Ajay Rastogi, refused to hear the petition.It held,'' At this stage we were not inclined to pass any order. The petition filed by Sanjiv Bhatt is devoid of merits."
