India, Aug. 2 -- An 88-year-old amateur aircraft model creator in Russia died while attempting to take off his homemade helicopter.

The deceased man belonged to the Omutninsky district of western Russia's Kirov Region.

He tried to fly in the self-built helicopter on Thursday.

However, the helicopter self-destructed during take-off, CNN reported quoting a news released unveiled by the Volga Region Transport Prosecutor's Office.

Local media identified the deceased person as Vladimir Trapeznikov.

He was taken to the Omutninsky District Hospital, the regional transport prosecutor's office told CNN.

The vehicle was unregistered, and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated, the prosecutor's office added.
