Kolkata/IBNS, Feb. 6 -- The Alipore court in Kolkata on Friday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Akhtar Ali, the whistle-blower who had flagged alleged financial irregularities at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, media reports said.
Ali's counsel told the court that his client was hospitalised while he had instead moved the Calcutta High Court seeking anticipatory bail.
The court rejected the explanation after the CBI alleged that Ali was deliberately evading his appearance.
In its chargesheet, the CBI alleged that Ali was involved in financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital even before corruption allegations surfaced against former principal Sandip Ghosh.
