New Delhi, Feb. 1 -- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday welcomed the allocation of Rs 7.85 lakh crore to the defence sector in the Union Budget 2026, saying the outlay strengthens the country's security framework following the success of Operation Sindoor.

He noted that more than Rs 2.19 lakh crore has been allocated under the capital head for the armed forces, of which Rs 1.85 lakh crore is earmarked for capital acquisition.

The allocation is about 24% higher than the capital acquisition budget for 2025-26 and is expected to further boost India's military capabilities.

Singh said modernisation of the armed forces remains a key focus of the budget.
