Mumbai/Kolkata/IBNS, Feb. 21 -- Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao will play former Indian cricket captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly in the latter's biopic.

Ganguly confirmed it to the media at an event in Burdwan on Thursday.

The speculations over who would play Ganguly onscreen were going on for several years.

Earlier, multiple B-Town actors including Ranbir Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana were speculated to be playing the role.

Meanwhile, Ganguly on Thursday escaped an accident unhurt after his car was involved in a collision on Durgapur Expressway in West Bengal while he was on way to the event at Burdwan University.

As per reports, a lorry suddenly overtook Ganguly's Range Rover forcing the car driver to apply brakes.
