Kolkata, July 18 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a Rs.1,950 crore City Gas Distribution (CGD) project spanning the Bankura and Purulia districts of West Bengal, marking a major step in expanding access to clean energy in eastern India.

The project, authorised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), aims to provide piped natural gas (PNG) connections to nearly 5.56 lakh households, over 250 commercial and more than 35 industrial customers.

In addition, it will set up 29 CNG stations across the two districts to fuel vehicles.
