India, Oct. 25 -- A local leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl and administrator of a seminary narrowly escaped a blast that occurred inside a mosque in Lower South Waziristan region in Pakistan on Friday.

The blast reportedly partially damaged the walls of the room.

The leader sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Lower South Waziristan district police officer Mohammad Tahir Shah confirmed to Dawn News that the incident, saying that unidentified assailants had planted an explosive device near the mosque at night.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Initial probe showed, a remote-controlled improvised explosive device was used for the blast.

The explosion triggered panic among locals.
