Toronto/IBNS, Dec. 4 -- Ontario is extending its One Fare transit programme for an additional two years, aiming to keep transportation costs down for riders across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, the provincial government announced Thursday.

The programme, launched in 2024, allows riders to pay a single fare when transferring between the Toronto Transit Commission and several regional transit agencies, eliminating the need to pay twice.

The province says the initiative has saved commuters nearly $200 million to date and enabled about 62 million free transfers.

Officials estimate riders can save up to $1,600 annually.
