Vadodara/IBNS, July 9 -- Nine people were killed after vehicles fell into a river following the collapse of a bridge in Gujarat's Vadodara, media reports said.

Fire brigade teams, local police and district administration members rushed to the spot for rescue work. Locals also joined in.

Three injured were rushed to hospital.

The area has been cordoned off to prevent further accidents.

The bridge, which connects Anand and Vadodara, collapsed during peak morning traffic hours.

The state government has announced Rs. 4 lakh as compensation for the heirs of the people who lost their lives. The injured will be provided Rs. 50,000 each and the government will arrange for their treatment.
