India, Nov. 1 -- Mumbai/IBNS: Clearing air over his statement where he said the Indian selectors were serving Anushka Sharma tea during World Cup, former cricketer Farokh Engineer said he never intended to demean the Bollywood actress who is also the wife of Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Engineer clarified after Anushka shared a letter in public asking all people to refrain from dragging her name without proofs in their own opinions. The former cricketer also said the entire matter was blown up unnecessarily.

The genesis of the controversy lies in Engineer's statement where he had said the former cricketer saw all that the selectors were doing in the World Cup in England and Wales was fetching "cups of tea" for Anushka.
