India, March 12 -- Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam has bestowed the country's highest honour 'The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean', to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his current two-day visit to the East African nation.
Modi is the first Indian PM to receive the honour.
Modi dedicated the award to 1.4 billion Indians and said it was a tribute to the centuries-old cultural and historical bonds of kinship between India and Mauritius.
"It is an acknowledgment of our shared commitment to regional peace, progress, security and sustainable development. And, it is a symbol of the shared hopes and aspirations of the Global South," Modi said.
