India, Feb. 13 -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) after the party, led by Tarique Rahman, claimed a decisive victory in Bangladesh's parliamentary elections.

Rahman, son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, is set to become the next Prime Minister following the BNP's dramatic comeback in the country's 13th national parliamentary polls.

His return marks a major political shift in Bangladesh, which has witnessed prolonged instability since the exit of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after the 2024 July-August uprising.

In a post on X, Modi said, "I convey my warm congratulations to Mr. Tarique Rahman on leading BNP to a decisive victory in the Parliamentary elections...
