India, June 22 -- Security has been beefed up in New York and Washington DC after the US launched military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities amid heightened tension in the Middle East.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) announced that it has enhanced deployment at religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites throughout the city.

"We're tracking the situation unfolding in Iran," NYPD wrote on X.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we're deploying additional resources to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across NYC and coordinating with our federal partners. We'll continue to monitor for any potential impact to NYC," the police further said.

The Metropolitan Police Department also issued a similar warning for Washington DC.
