Kolkata/IBNS, March 18 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday hit out at the Opposition for questioning her intent behind visiting Furfurfa Sharif, a prominent Muslim pilgrimage in the state's Hooghly district, with assembly elections due to be held next year.

The Chief Minister, who was welcomed by Pirzada Taha Siddiqui and other clerics, promised a polytechnic college and a bus stand near Furfura Sharif where she reached at around 5 pm.

Mamata, who is at the receiving end of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s "appeasement" allegations, visited the shrine only third time since coming to power in 2011.
