India, March 28 -- A magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit Myanmar on Friday, with strong tremors felt in neighbouring Thailand's capital, Bangkok city, media reports said.
As per the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicentre of the quake was located in Sagaing region in Myanmar.
Apart from Thailand, strong tremors were also felt in China.
The quake hit at a depth of 10 km.
Witnesses told Myanmar Now on Tuesday that parts of the historic Mandalay Palace in Mandalay were severely damaged.
Strong tremors also destroyed a bridge in Sagaing Township.
According to reports, several high-rise buildings in Mandalay were destroyed due to the earthquake.
It is feared that a large number of people might be trapped under the debris.
