India, Jan. 9 -- The Madras High Court on Friday stayed an earlier single-judge order directing the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant a UA certificate to Jana Nayagan, starring actor Vijay, and posted the matter for further hearing on January 21 after the Pongal holidays.

The stay has effectively put the film's release on hold.

Jana Nayagan, widely described as Vijay's swansong before he transitioned into full-time politics, was originally slated for release on January 9.

However, soon after the order was passed, the CBFC moved an appeal and sought an urgent hearing before a division bench later in the day.
