India, April 23 -- In one of the worst terror strikes that targeted non-Muslim tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's holidayers' magnet Pahalgam, Pakistan-backed gunmen killed at least 28 people, including two foreigners, and injured many others, triggering a nationwide outrage and shaking the Modi government on the security situation in the region that was witnessing peace and a surge in return of vacationers. The attack is the deadliest since the 2019 Pulwama strike and aimed at hitting the economy of a resurgent Kashmir as it sent a chilling message to the state of India since tourists were largely spared by the terrorists in the past.
