New Delhi/IBNS, Sept. 6 -- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent India at the virtual BRICS Summit convened by Brazil next week, media reports said.

Brazil is the current chair of the summit where discussions are likely to take place on US President Donald Trump's trade policy.

The virtual meeting will be held on September 8, said Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

Both Brazil and India are sanctioned by the US with 50 percent tariffs but for disparate reasons.

The diplomatic tension between the US and Brazil escalated as Trump imposed a 50 percent tariff on Brasilia in what he called a fight against the "witch hunt" against former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
