India, Feb. 6 -- At least 69 people were killed and more than 160 were injured after a suicide bomber detonated explosives at a Shia place of worship in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, on Friday, according to local media and security officials.

The blast occurred at the Tarlai Imambargah in the Shehzad Town area during afternoon prayers.

Pakistani media reports said the attacker set off the explosives at the main gate of the shrine.

Despite this, the powerful explosion caused extensive damage to the gate and nearby buildings, shattering windows and scattering debris across the road.
