Kolkata/IBNS, Nov. 15 -- South Africa bowled out India for 189 in the first innings of the maiden Test against India at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.

India took a lead of 30 runs in the first innings.

KL Rahul was the top scorer for India with his 39.

Simon Harmer picked four wickets for the Proteas.

Gill suffered the sprain immediately after a sweep shot that earned him a boundary, the only runs he had scored before retiring hurt.

The skipper did not come out to bat later in a shot in the arm for South Africa.
