New Delhi/IBNS, June 19 -- Amid the ongoing language debate, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said people will soon feel ashamed to speak in English, stressing on the importance of Indian languages.

Speaking at a book launch event, Shah said the idea of India "can't be imagined" in any "half-baked" foreign language.

Shah's remarks came at a time opposition parties, particularly from the southern part of India, accused the Modi government of imposing Hindi in disguise of National Education Policy or NEP.

The controversy over NEP implementation in Tamil Nadu has intensified, particularly regarding its three-language formula.
