India, Aug. 15 -- Indian PM Narendra Modi on Friday announced that the country will launch Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a defence initiative to protect the country's strategic and civilian sites.

He announced during his Independence Day speech at the Red Fort.

"In the next ten years, we are going to expand, strengthen, and modernise this national security shield," he said in his Independence Day speech.

Speaking on the mission elaborately, Modi said using cutting-edge technology, the country will ensure the safety of our strategic installations, our cities, and our sacred places.
