India, Oct. 6 -- India has stressed that any trade deal with the United States must respect its "red lines," amid tensions over Washington's imposition of additional tariffs on New Delhi.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said during an event in New Delhi on Sunday that negotiations with the US were ongoing and the aim was to reach a trade understanding that protects India's national interests.

He said, "There are problems, there are issues, nobody is in denial of it. Those issues need to be negotiated, discussed, and resolved, which is exactly what we are trying to do."
