New Delhi, March 9 -- India is poised to achieve a significant milestone in its railway sector with the introduction of its first hydrogen-powered train, which is expected to commence operations by March 31, 2025, on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana, media reports said.
The move aligns with the country's broader push for sustainable transportation, aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner energy solutions.
Hydrogen-powered trains are widely seen as the future of eco-friendly rail transport, as they operate on hydrogen fuel cells that emit only water and heat as by-products.
This makes them a cleaner alternative to conventional diesel locomotives, significantly cutting down carbon emissions and noise pollution.
