India, Oct. 14 -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a "very good friend," while addressing a summit on the Gaza conflict in Egypt.
Trump's remarks came amid reports of strain in Washington-New Delhi ties following the recent U.S. decision to impose additional tariffs on Indian goods.
"India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top - he's done a fantastic job," Trump said, with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif standing behind him on the dais. "I think Pakistan and India are going to live very nicely together," he added, prompting a chuckle from Sharif.
