India, June 18 -- The Indian government has granted Elon Musk's satellite internet venture Starlink a licence to operate in the country, paving the way for broader collaboration in satellite communications to support the Digital India initiative.

Announcing the development on Tuesday, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said the licence marks a key step in expanding satellite-based broadband connectivity across the country.

He met with Starlink President and COO Gwynne Shotwell and her team to explore areas of potential cooperation.

He added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, satellite technologies were becoming a transformative force in India's digital revolution.
