India, Sept. 9 -- The Indian government on Tuesday advised its nationals to exercise caution and adhere to the steps and guidelines issued by the Nepali authorities amid the violent protests in Kathmandu that left 19 people dead.

The Indian government mourned the loss of lives in the violence.

India described Nepal as a 'close friend'.

"As a close friend and neighbour, we hope that all concerned will excercise restraint and address any issues through peaceful means and dialogue," it said.

Nepali authorities have imposed curfew in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts of the country, a day after violent protests over social media ban in the Himalayan nation left at least 19 people dead.
